Our Approach

Child-centered, by design.

At Little Ponderosa, children are given the space to explore, build confidence, and grow at their own pace. Our classrooms are calm, thoughtful, and invite curiosity, creativity, and meaningful play. We care just as deeply for our teachers — all our exceptional educators are given the support and resources they need to love what they do.

Our philosophy

Children learn through relationships, movement, play, observation, and the freedom to explore.

While we have a robust curriculum calendar, our days are shaped by what real early development actually looks like: stretches of unhurried play, predictable rhythms, and teachers who follow each child’s lead as often as they guide it.

What we focus on

The threads woven through every program

Exploration

Children are given real time and real materials to investigate the world at their own pace.

Play

Play is the primary way young children make sense of ideas, relationships, and their own capabilities.

Independence

Simple, achievable tasks let children do things for themselves, building quiet confidence.

Curiosity

Questions are welcomed and followed, rather than redirected back to a lesson plan.

Social-Emotional Development

Teachers help children name feelings, navigate conflict, and build early friendships.

Movement

Daily indoor and outdoor movement supports both bodies and developing minds.

Creativity

Open-ended materials invite invention rather than a single correct outcome.

Nature

Santa Fe’s high desert light and landscape are part of the learning environment, not just a backdrop.

Relationships

Consistent, caring adults are the foundation everything else is built on.
